Fans of Yigal Azrouël's cropped leather jackets and layered jersey separates will not be disappointed in the designer's spring 2010 collection shown today in the tents at Bryant Park.
The color palette took a turn for the lighter as Azrouël used mostly muted shades of gray, navy and white (with the exception of a bright orange belted cocktail dress at exit 22). True to form, day looks were layered in draped jersey. This season with the addition of slashed bandeau tops under transparent white tanks and tees, and blouses embroidered at the shoulder with faux military epaulettes.
For evening, Azrouël focused on slashing his signature jersey into bold graphic shapes, using metal hardware to connect the top and bottom of an exceptional party dress and connecting strips of raw jersey to create a stone-colored sleeveless shift.
A thick heather gray vest stood out as must-own, as did the complete look in model Tao's last exit - an antique lamb jacket, slashed tee and linen trousers.
The men's collection also carried over some of the most successful elements of Azrouël's designs - striped tees, asymmetrical cardigans and always those buttery leather jackets. The noteworthy additions here were washed cotton jackets with leather details, a trench coat with removable sleeves and casual burlap totes.
