When word spread that Pheobe Philo wouldn't design Celine's Fall 2009 collection, the fashion world was disappointed. Surprisingly the collection, designed by a team of staff members at Celine, has more than made up for the initial let-down. Oversized ponchos, cropped trousers and jolts of monochrome red are proving to be plenty of fashion eye candy to tide us over. That said, we don't think it's crazy to assume that Philo might have glanced at a Fall 09 sketch or two, making sure the designs set the stage for her break-out collections. Either way, we think Fall 2009 sets a fine stage for Celine's anticipated mid-season and Spring 2010 offerings.
