Brian Reyes Resort 2009

New York is blessed with a surplus of young designers eagerly creating, waving their hands in the air, and waiting for someone to notice. Brian Reyes, who started his career at Oscar De la Renta, began his solo career with a bang in 2006 when he received the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award. Since then he has continued to leverage his early experience by designing for the uptown set. This gent, in a pool of young talented designers, is doing just fine for himself.

When we arrived at the Resort showing yesterday afternoon, a feeling of calm swept over us. Strawberries and coffee in hand, we perused what should be a very successful Resort collection, in silence. After a few minutes we started the whispering, "Do you feel this fabric?", "Seafoam, this seafoam is...amazing.". Needless to say, this collection was one of our favorites. The palate was comprised of the most washed out colors imaginable (think salmon, seafoam, and marigold with two parts white and one part color) which should translate well to consumers who will associate the modesty in color with that ever-popular selling point called 'basic' (even though his tailoring is anything but). Beautifully structured frocks, loose, breezy, boxy blouses, and ruffled tanks (and a small selection of outwear that is breathtaking and just as light) make for a collection that is mix and matchable (a common theme in Resort collections) and easy to wear.
