Monique Lhuillier Resort 2009 Multimedia Report
Two very tired Coutorture editors dragged their high heeled selves to the Monique Lhuillier Resort showing last night. A little bit of champagne helped, the pretty dresses and warm florescent lights helped, the fact that it was just us and the Style.com photographer helped. Then we can home and put the images up straight away, which also makes a girl feel good. We love to share with our readers!
Monique Lhuillier is also the kind of designer that can enliven the most tired fashionista. Known for her glamorous frocks, she can be likened to an up and coming Oscar de la Renta, She is the sort of designer, that is, who doesn't follow trends, or the ever-growing urban, utilitarian, and functional aesthetics. Her clothing just makes women look extremely beautiful and feminine. Fashion, without a doubt, deserves this brand of designer.
The Resort collection was no departure from Lhuillier's reputation. Floor sweeping dresses with tight bodices and intricate details made us wonder why we ever opt for the occasional grungy, boyish styles. If you could manage to wear a Lhuiller dress at least one day out of seven, you're life would probably be absent from falafel stands and dive bars completely. Clothing like this is kind of fairy tale and so it seems appropriate for Resort, a season that pivots on the notion of escape. Overall, each frock had its own personality, its own very special details, and its own imaginary lifestyle that any over-worked fashion obsessive could temporarily imagine as their own.
