The West Coast Loves The Southwest

This Spring and Fall 08 the West Coast is turning out a slew of Southwestern prints. At a Fall preview today (aka-when the press visit the showroom to see the collections up close and personal. This happens after fashion week and the trade shows. The rotation is thus, first it's the spectacle, then the peddling, then the news-making) we noticed not one, but three different collections with Southwestern prints. It's not exclusively West Coast, the trend is also emerging from streetwear sources. The origin of the trend, that is, can be said to be derived from the 'laid back' designers. The Southwestern print works well for both seasons. In the summer it's a replacement for the bohemia we've grown so tired of, and, in the winter, Southwestern prints remind us of cozy log cabins and getaway trips to upstate New York. Get your ponchos, your cardigans, your high tops and mini-skirts while they're hot.
